a bedtime story
when i was with my last boyfriend, B, i got to know many more people, mainly from his school. some of them i have already known and thus had the chance to know better, come became new friends. it was a hell lot of fun, with gatherings here and there, and i was always invited. i remember the Newton hawker centre late nights, birthday parties, and of course the alcohol fests which are unforgettable till today.ever since B and i broke up in April, the parties continued. without me of course. every one knew i didn't want to see B. i found reasons to blame and hate him. i was upset, even cried at Mambo and had to have friends console me. what a loser!!! anyway, the EJECT button was pressed, and i was not invited anymore. i'm not being sore about missing out on these parties. it's just that it's funny how things work... X and Y are together. horray. X and Y break up. ok we gotta keep them away from each other. or choose to take a side. i know why i was invited to join in the first place at certain gatherings which i don't really know the people well. because i was B's Girlfriend. and that confers some kind of social right. it's just natural. but i never regretted, because i got to know some of them much better, and till now they are still great friends who are in contact with me. i admit that sometimes i get a tad jealous when i hear of how fun the parties are, and i remember all the old times. and wished i was there. bleh. luckily i still go partying with them, and they are still amongst my most favourite clubbing companions. clubbing with them and poking fun at each other and jumping around to retro music together never fails to make me happy. B is around sometimes, but i usually treat him with indifference. i hope one day i will be able to talk to him again. i do treasure these friends, and i believe they will still be friends a long way down the road. shucks. i sound so melancholic and sappy and sentimental and sad. hahaa...i may be sappy, but i am a contented girl. i don't need to find ecstacy in the highs of alcohol, and i swear never to puke from alcohol overdose again. e feeling totally sucksssss. (but i didn't say that i won't drink. i still love my housepours and cocktails very very veryyy much. )

why should i even rack my brains for a title
met up with the girls today at holland V! we went over to hoapoa or poahoa or wadever you call that vietnamese restaurant. main thing was that it's our Christmas exchange day! every year we draw lots to see who would buy a gift for who, but this year we refined it a little :) in addition to drawing a 'mortal', each person gets to wish for something so the 'angel' can go looking for it. fun right. hehe. but too bad my angel couldn't make it today so i haven't got mine!! sob. hahaa. it's ok i can wait. btw i wished for MAC's Blue Absinth eye shadow. waiting waiting waiting!!!
oh!! we were SO fascinated by Sheng's camera. they call it a lomo camera or something like that? when you press once, it takes 4 frames within 1 second. so it's like whatever movement within that 1 second will be recorded in pictorial form. 8 girls trying to pull funny faces in 1 second. it was just hilarious i tell you... can't wait to see those pics!!

while waiting for them to arrive, i went to Bodyshop. bought the Cranberry shimmer lotion at half price!!! $10 now. Dawn's gonna strangle me cos she bought it at $20 just a FEW DAYS ago. those Xmas bloodsuckers. and i got a eye shimmer to use as a base as well.
after lunch at the restaurant we walked over to Gelare for some dessert. and to take somemore dumb photos :P after which alot of them had to leave because they had something on. so me, Deb, Xin and Kai took 7 down to town, where me and Deb got off at Shaw, Kai was going to take e train, and Xin was going to Bugis. so the two of us went to meet Grace at Cream Bistro and i had the Teriyaki Chicken salad Deb has been raving about. it's really quite good! it's a warm salad with a pan fried chicken fillet on a bed of garden greens. the sauce is nice la, i think it's vinaigrette mixed with pureed tomatos and teriyaki sauce. tangy and appetising. i'm gonna try replicating it at home ;)
met Isaac around 5 for Narnia. he got me a Xmas pressie! so surprisingly sweet of him haha. it's a Bookbinders sketch book. that thing is damn ex for a sketchbook.. i really like the gift alot. it's thoughtful and something that i surely would use for school. just that it's so perfectly bound i can't bear to scribble on it!
there's the turqoise (it looks plain blue here but it really is a nice shade of turqoise) sketchbook with the pink card, accompanied by Isaac's very nice handwriting :p the red card is from Xin and reads 'another monstrous creation by Ms YX Tan'. come on Xin it's not that bad!! all of us said it's a big improvement already so keep up the good (and entertaining) work. heehee. on e left's Kai's card, and the black and white one is by Mui with our pics on the cover!! and the shimmer lotion and eyeshadow's in there too. not bad la at least something new today heh hehs.
Narnia's not too bad. i like the war scenes. the witch looks kinda cool. she's a vicious and heartless character and she looks like it. she dies in the end. the film is 2 1/2 hours long. and it feels looonnnngggg. the front part is a little slow moving. but not bad. i haven't read the books before but i understand the story.
alright i need to bathe now. laters.

i am blogging on Christmas day. la la la.
i had a weird dream last night. i brought my desire to lose weight into my dreams. i was in a restaurant with my parents and they had finished eating cos i came late. i looked all over the menu.. century egg porridge, some herb porridge (btw i dreamt that i was still in Taiwan), fried rice, xiaolongbao blahblah. in the end i asked for 1 long(the bamboo steam basket) of STEAMED TOFU topped with pork. what.i also dreamt that my tour guide owned a home which was a designer hotel which was extravagantly furnished. marble floors, glass wall water curtains, double floor heights, crystal chandeliars. i was walking in it for the longest time and i never came to the end. it was a nice place. but why am i still in Taiwan?? i wished that was my house!! anyway, played mahjong at Mike's place the previous night and only got home this morning around 7. totally knocked out. maybe that's why i have such dreams. i wonder how's Mike doing. his extended family is going over his place for Christmas and his aunties have challenged him to mahjong. he's so gonna be concussed at the end of today. poor boy. i don't think i'll go over today even though i could see Mike everyday and still wanna see him, because every single person from his mom's side's gonna be there. i am shy..i'm going over to Dawn's place tonight.. she says we'll be drinking, but spending Christmas singing 'Jingle bells' at the top of my lungs in front of my parents, uncles and aunties with a moronic grin on my face doesn't sound too good. so it's either carefully orchestrated or brought out too somewhere else. nyehehheh.have a sinful Christmas you all, and make a resolution on New Year's day to be good till the next Christmas.

'i heard a rumour~'
mambo night again! thought Zouk would be less packed cos MOS just opened but i am so wrong. the queue at 10.30pm was already till the car park!! uergh. queued like a whole hour to get in. but it wasn't that bad cos my friends were around to talk to. it was quite a good night, but i wasn't high at all. i guess cos i didn't drink alot and pretty much stuck to vodka. abit of bourbon and long island. yeah. and i drank on an empty stomach AGAIN. i really should stop doing that.
what else to show other than the pictures from the end of the night?teehee ;)

whatever we were trying to do, i have no idea.

i love the lighting of this pic. it makes me look like i have perfect complexion!! hahaha

there they go again....

trying to look on a drug high

the couple, the clown and the reindeer.

me and my dawnie
these 2, just my bodyguards. ahem. halfway through the party, a friend asked me if i missed Mike. yeah i do... like all the time. he hasn't had time to even msg me at all the past 2 days cos he is outfield. sighs. the pain of being in love.
speaking of boyfriends, Dawn's fiance Julien landed in Sgp yesterday afternoon. it was a surprise visit alllllllll the way from Aussie. just for dawnie. say it with me: AWWWWWWWWWW. :D

the bug that's eating into me
i think i have lost a friend. we used to be good friends. and now what's left is just formal conversation, filled with doubt and caution, for fear of saying what we do not want to hear. i don't think it can ever be the same again. the hope for it to be mended seems too hopeful. i don't dare push it. it has been gnawing at my heart for months. i don't bother bringing it up, cos i know it will stir up more. i don't even know if it is a misunderstanding, for it passes in an awkward silence. as much as i don't want to admit it, it bothers me alot. and it makes me sad. i don't know why.and yet i hesitate from doing more. it has turned cold.

shopping cures all
was planning to save up this month after burning my money in shops last month. but i couldn't resist the temptation. as usual. yesterday while passing Fox saw the sale, gym pants for $10 each. snapped up 2. same cut, one white, one pink. today went for morning dimsum with the girls, and after talking and laughing at Chinatown for some time, we went down to town to shop. got Lying her long overdue birthday pressie, a pair of Birks in a cheery light orange. we think she'll like it (well she'd better!). and then went over to Pacific Plaza to look at lingerie. i didn't get any but Xin and Shana got a set each. and then we walked to Shaw and popped into Mango, where we scooted out of after 5 mins cos we felt suffocated. and then someone remembered that Mambo was having a sale, so we walked back to Pac Plaza. we all tried on skirts (by this time only Deb, Shana, Kai and me was around) and Mike came to meet halfway. in the end only Deb didn't get anything. rest of us girls each got a skirt and Mike got a funny t-shirt. yay! :)after which Mike and i went off dating. haha. walked around town for awhile, cursed alot at the crowd especially the totally congested Wisma-Taka underpass. and finally settled down at Coffee Bean for a drink.
even though the day was spent squeezing past half of Singapore, i am in high spirits. after much intense lusting, i finally brought home my object of desire. presenting Eclat D'Arpege by Lanvin.

a random post.
went to the street jazz class just now and to my extreme surprise found very middle aged women in the class. now i'm not being bitchy because i fully support people of all ages to engage in exercise but errr. this 2 ah mahs distinctly stood out from the rest (even from the ah mahs clad in tights and sports bras. more hiong than me.) because, they were dressed very....weirdly. no other words to describe la.
the one in the centre of the room was in a full light pink fluttery set. like lycra top to toe with attached 'wings' or skirts. machiam chinese dance. she should dress her age, seriously.
another one in front of me was not that bad, it's just that her outfit made alot of noise?? she had this belt of metallic..charms? or decorations? dunno wad to call that, but i think you know what i mean. and it was going shingshinglingaling the whole time. i think she's really into Christmas!
anw, Mon and me went for an express pedicure after the class and now we have nice nails :D actually this is the whole point of the post. I HAVE NICE TOE NAILS.

adding on to the bitching
speaking of off tangent service personnel, i walked down with Mon to Shunji Matsuo after the California disaster to get my haircut. i didn't make an appointment so i asked how long would i have to wait to get my hair cut. the girl at the counter asked for my name and asked which kind of stylist i would like to get. so i told her my name and asked for a leading stylist. at this point an older lady butts in 'izzit veron?!'the younger one tells her that it's not. and the old woman spins away, totally ignoring me already.ok nevermind. the younger one tells me i'll get my cut 'soon'. and fails to tell me how soon would that be. the older one whisks me away to a seat, dumps a couple of magazines on the dresser and disappears again. all the time not uttering a word to me. so i was left there with a couple of magazines and no one who would tell me how long i would need to wait. and Mon had to suffer with me. GRRRR.i got restless after 5 minutes because i was left hanging there. so i went up to the old HAG and asked her how soon is soon.'soon'.wtf. immediately i cancelled and walked out of the salon.do i have to make an appointment to be considered a customer at Shunji Matsuo? what kind of service is that. even if i didn't make an appointment and asked for your trainee stylist to cut my hair i expect respectable service because it is Shunji Matsuo, and not Golden Paris Girl Hairdressing. and i asked for your leading stylist, which would cost me $45 to get my hair cut. it was my first visit there, and i don't feel like going back anymore.in the end i went to Yess! at Cineleisure. the service over there was so much better. i asked for a Linda because Mon recommended her, and she was friendly and attentive even though she already had on hand a customer who was doing rebonding. she turned out to be the assistant manager but she didn't put on any airs or give the 'soon' treatment. and the guy who shampooed my hair gave a superb scalp massage. from the temples all the way to the back of the ears and down to the neck. heavenly.. all that for?$29.40. go suck shit you wrinkled old prune.

summary of taiwan, breakdown of california
just came back 2 nights ago...it was quite a nice trip. my only complaint was that we spent too much time on e coach. like 1/2 the time on it man. butt ache!! but only cos we had to travel around the island. taipei-taitung-kaoshiung-taichung-taipei. in 7 days. i can't really tell you much about where are the places i visited because i suck at remembering chinese names. but the variety of food they have there is amazing. some familiar but with an interesting twist, some weird, some just totally shocking. ok only the deer foetus is shocking. i'll show the photo later below. shopping's not bad! full of girly stuff. went Ximenting, Shilin and a few other night markets which i can't remember the names. i bought 2 jackets/coats, 4 bags, 5 tops, 16 pairs socks (not all for me!), ONE pair of earring (self restraint), ONE pair of shoes and some other linglinglonglongs. and nothing i bought was above 25SGD. heh heh. we brought back taiwanese pineapple tarts, muah chee, fruit jelly, water apples (super sweet! the sgp ones just suck in comparison) and vegetarian cheese cake sticks which taste better and richer than the american ones and best of all dun contain butter ha ha ha.
the famous ah-chung mee sua. roadside eating! it's in Ximenting. it's really quite good and real cheap...35/20 you do the math lah.
a funny popiah. peanut shavings plus a sweet-sour ice cream and coriander. sounds like an odd combi but it's rather refreshing. and the peanut block from which the shavings are shaved from is like. 1 cubic foot. HUGE!
yam balls. looks cute but tasteless and rubbery. like eating eraser.
this is a restaurant made of wood, stones, shells and glass. really unique ambience..and the tableware's hand made from some mud. i loved the place!
fried peanuts hakka style. not oily and tastes just as good as our nasi lemak peanuts!
another mee sua but with pig intestines.
big custard apples. they have cross breeds like pineapple custard apples.
a dessert that feels like a cross between muah chee and jelly. soft and very light on the stomach not sticky like muah chee. tastes kinda milky too..mmmm...
the all well known betel nut girl of taiwan. look how happy my dad is-_-
little shawn with my bro. 'i told you i told you what i am so strong!' hahaha...ultra cute boy..

fried crabs galore!!

this is the deer foetus i'm taking about. it's dried up, you're supposed to GRIND it into a POWDER. and EAT it. it was supposedly the miracle cure for Song Meiling's asthma. and it costs like 2000+SGD. f.r.e.a.k.y.
the real chicken cutlet at shilin market. huge. only 45NT. about 2+ SGD. cannot finish even with 4 of us sharing!
ok i am quite tired of posting photos so i shall stop talking about my taiwan trip. getting lazy. let me tell you about California fitness.
yesterday Mon and i decided to make use of the 1 month free pass to Cali Fitness so we went down to the Orchard Branch to sign up. actually we are supposed to be above 21 to be eligible but we aren't. but they don't insist on checking your IC.
but that is not the point. the point is that the 'Fitness Consultant', whom i will kindly call D although he deserves a laughable name, is a loser.
D: 'so, Monica, what's your weight?'
Mon: 'about 46 or 47.'
D: 'so, it's 46 plus 47...90+?'
Us: 'hur. hur.'
D: 'hmm...how long have you two known each other?'
Me: 'bout 4 or 5 years..'
D: 'so its 4 plus 5...9 years?'
what a brilliant reply.
he works like a snail, talks like a slug and moves like a turtle. in short he is slower than thou. all the time while trying to look cool and suave. not a good combination.
at the end of the step class we attended, he promptly (aha! 10 brownie points for being fast!!) stood ourside the ladies to lead us downstairs to present to us our 1 mth card. so we had to follow him and sit at a table. where he proceeds to (here we go again.) get our bogus ID number, home address and sign the terms and conditions form. and he typed in the info into the comp with ONE FINGER. and after 10 minutes, he says,
'oops. hmmm...i typed her(mine) address under your(Mon) name by mistake....hmm...but this is not important ah...nevermind one..'
WTF. you can't even read info from the same form?? we wrote our addresses directly underneath our names. how could you miss that? but good thing he said nvm. cos he would take another 10 minutes to correct the error.
i thought we were let off when he asked 'are you all rushing for time?'
me: 'actually i have a hair appointment...so yeah kinda..'
D: 'ohh...i know of a good salon..maybe i can recommend you and give you a voucher for it...they are not bad..haha..'
after which he returns to slow attempts to process the forms. i felt like boxing him. and then he whips out a piece of paper and asks both of us to 'Recommend your friends for a FREE 2 weeks pass to California Fitness!".
we reluctantly write 1 name each. by default our boyfriends. sorry boys... :(
D: 'only 2? i'm sure you can write more... i help you.. you help me mah... help me la.. if not my manager will scold me leh...'
so we graciously write a couple more names each.
D: 'are your friends above 21?'
Us: 'not all.' we conveniently left out the part that only 2 of them are above 21.
D is such a pathetic consultant. at the end of everything we were so frustrated and concluded that he is bad at flirting, bad at selling, bad at typing, bad at reading, bad at being a poser, had little or no education, and is probably a part timer in spite of owning name cards.
don't go to California Fitness unless you are prepared to pay for the membership. or they'll hound you and irritate the hell out of you. especially if you meet great consultants like D. yay!

the i-am-so-happy post.
the past few days have been nothing but fun! perhaps its the first week after my last paper that's why i'm raring to go play. hehhe. and its my birthday week! wheee!on friday went to sentosa with Danny, Jiahe and Charissa. wanted to suntan but when we got there the sun was gone. GRRARRR. it was blowing cold wind instead and we were all screaming and whining while in the water. damn cold la! as usual we spent the whole time laughing our asses off. about sea serpents and mario. can't divulge the details behind these code names or i'll get into trouble. hahahaaha.
danny and jiahe sleeping cos there's no sun.
charissa and me on the beach tram (argh i look arrrgaaaleee)Saturday was my birthday, and darling Mike told me that we were taking the cable car. i thought we were going to Altivo or something but...it was dinner in the cable car!! it was so fun! when u first board the cable car they put in the table with the soup and appetiser. and u go one round (mount faber- sentosa- mount faber) which takes about half an hour, and the main course and wine is served. one more round, and the dessert and tea comes in. the dessert was italian tiramisu and it's super sinful and delicious!! yummmmmy. i loved the ride. it was abit scary at first cos i haven't taken that thing for like 10 years and i couldn't help freaking out. but after getting used to it the dinner turned out to be so interesting and romantic. thank you dear for the wonderful dinner and the lovely presents..*muaaahhhhh* :)
before dinner at the mount faber stop

the perfect match

with the table all set for dinner

i love you even though you call me a pig!
i was in the mood for old movies, and went through Mike's vcd/dvd collection. those 3 drawers are filled with movies. and that's not the complete collection. i watch movies at his place all the time. hahaha. free one. watched 'Pretty Woman' that night.the next day the both of us watched 'Chicken Little'. i feel so cheated! not only is the plot so-so only( it's so similar to the other bird show 'Valiant'), THE NUMA-NUMA SONG WASN'T EVEN FEATURED IN THE SHOW. TA MA DE! i watched that show cos of the numa-numa song!!! bahs. so if you are gonna watch the movie cos you wanna see the chicken dance to that song, just watch the advert for the movie, cos that's all the dancing that chicken's gonna do. i can't even remember the name of the chicken. nvm. i'll just look forward to 'Perhaps Love' (Takeshi is so handsomeeeee...) and 'Memoirs of a Geisha'.yesterday was another busy day. had a studiotwo pot luck dinner at Cheryl's place :) i brought curry chicken (partly cooked by me under strict supervision by my mum =/). there was SO MUCH food. Zongye brought 4 big packs of hokkien mee, Yuying brought a tray of potato salad (i tell you her potato salad is the best. damn good man.), Prime brought an apple strudel, Jeremy came with the all time staple of fishballs, Shyh Hao had 50 sticks of otah, Zhilei brought ice cream, Chunyan brought chips and drinks, Cheryl provided california handrolls, Belinda bought 2 big cakes from Bengawan Solo, and Crystal the crazy cook whipped up pasta with meatballs, a garden salad AND a tray of brownie. all that food for a little more than 10 people. i had to stand hunched after i tried everything. hahhaa. fantastic gathering! actually the gathering was kinda a farewell party for Belinda our year 1 tutor. she's leaving! going back to hongkong with the family. means our school will be missing 2 tutors (her husband's an archi tutor as well). sigh. we're all kinda sad cos she's the closest to us and even though she's really strict (no qualms making us redo substandard drawings) and professional when it comes to work, she's great fun to be with. which tutor would buy us apple pies, play mahjong with us, and laugh at my hair colour/ ask me where i got my hair cut, go to marche for dinner and then to ktv with us, and whine about her new students to us. i'll miss her so much! all my other tutors are just not as good as her. :( maybe our studio could go to hongkong on a studio trip and look for her next time...
that's Cheryl, Chunyan and me
Belinda on the far left, with her little princess Lauren and Zhilei.
Chongmian(he's now in NTU), Jeremy, Shyh Hao and Zhilei. that blur spot on the left is Lauren zooming past. she gets super happy at our parties! After the pot luck i went to Party World ktv to meet up with Mui, Xin, Sanduo, Royston and Fabian. they were already high on singing when i reached. Xin had her legs up on the couch so chor lor!!! Sanduo is the king la. he can really sing! i sang 'ni zui zhen gui' with him and once he opened his mouth for the Jacky Cheung part i was like fwoooaaaah. so pressurising man. i suck at singing hahaha. anw it was nice to see them cos i haven't seen them for soooo long. esp Royston and Sanduo.
Royston, Sanduo and Mui. the hand belongs to Xin!

Xin, Royston, Mui, me and Fabby, who was super lame the whole time la!!!! till the point we ignored him. hahah.
Mui and Xin passed me my pressie from the 9clan. it's the Adidas fencing jacket i was eyeing a long time ago!!! it costs a hundred bucks in Sgp so i couldn't bear to buy it but they saw in while on a trip to Hongkong earlier this year and they bought it and kept it until now! so sweet of them. i absolutely love it to bits. it's super cool and fits damn well. i just look like.....like.....a fencing pro! love it love it love it!!!
Monnie bought me this babydoll top for my birthday too. it comes with a necklace. thank you babe :D she said she was tempted to keep the top for herself. biiiiitch, you can borrow it anytime you want!phewwww. been busy these few days with such enjoyable activities, how to not be happy. haha. it's just great. i love the december holidays!! i'm almost done packing for my family holiday to Taiwan tmr morning. tonight i might meet up with part of the 9clan for supper. can't wait. *GRINS*

went for dinner with my parents just now. my birthday dinner! 2 days early cos SOMEONE chope my saturday. ;) bro couldn't make it cos he is doing CIP (the name CIP is bullshit. they get paid $30 a day. who the hell gets PAID for doing community service?!!?? i didn't get paid!! and their CIP is at a warehouse. where they can kop adidas tshirts! some CIP sia.) so we went to Hanabi, a jap restaurant at King's Arcade. it's a small and cosy place. quite nice cos its not too noisy or overcrowded. we went for the ala carte buffet and the food is not bad. so now i'm quite full.
